Interior Designer BT Road Kolkata: Old Buildings and New Towers, Both Handled
The BT Road corridor is not one kind of housing. It is two.
There are the older buildings in Baranagar, Sinthee and Belgharia with load-bearing walls, low ceilings, narrow staircases and wiring that predates the flat's current owner. And there are the new towers around Dunlop and Nagerbazar with clean structures but compact carpet areas where every inch of storage has to be planned.
The two need opposite approaches. We do not use one template for both.
In older buildings we plan for:
- Load-bearing walls that cannot be touched, so storage moves vertical instead of sideways
- Ceiling height under 9 feet, where a heavy false ceiling makes the room feel smaller
- Rewiring and plumbing that has to be redone before any carpentry begins
- Staircases too narrow for pre-assembled units, so modular parts are sized to carry up
In new flats we plan for:
- Builder layouts with dead corners and awkward beam drops
- Small balconies that can become utility or reading space
- Storage-first kitchens and wardrobes sized to the actual carpet area
- Society rules on work timings, lift use and debris removal

Complete home interiors adds full carpentry, crockery and study units, detailed ceiling and profile lighting, complete electrical work, painting, soft furnishing and styling.
What moves the number up or down: core material (MDF, HDHMR or plywood), finish (laminate, acrylic, PU or veneer), hardware brand, how much civil and electrical work the flat needs, and how much of the existing structure is reused.

Final detailing, styling, cleaning and a joint snag walkthrough. We hand over a home ready to live in.
